New to ULC?

Who we are

University Lutheran Chapel  is affiliated with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and offers a variety of ministries and activities including a full-service coffee house, The Common Cup, which is situated in the lower level of the chapel. As a ministry to the university community, most who attend have an affiliation to one of the universities in the area. About half of the worshiping population during the school year is students. Although we have many students who worship with us, people of all age feel welcome at the Chapel.

What to expect

Worship:

We know that people are different, therefore their expressions of praise will be different. To that end, we have two worship styles. One is called, “Living Heritage.” Alive and vibrant, this service features traditional hymns and a form that has been used in the church for hundreds of years. You may see the pastor and assistants wearing white robes, intended to mask the person that we might focus on God. Communion is served at almost every worship service.

The second style of worship is called, “Living Praise.” The music in this worship service will usually have been written within the last ten years and would fit the “adult contemporary” genre. You will see more video used and it will have a more relaxed feel. There will still be historic parts of the worship service, but they may find a bit more contemporary sound. Communion is served at almost every worship service.

We adhere pretty strictly to a “come-as-you-are” policy. We don’t have any expectation of what people will wear to worship, and believe that the Kingdom of God is about bigger things. The Chapel has a history of this, dating back fifty years to a pastor who said, “We are just glad you are coming.”

 Children:

While we don’t have a staffed nursery, children are welcome and valued. There is space for parents to walk around with children.

Parking:

Parking is always an issue at the Chapel. With our downtown location, we simply advise you to come early. The Forest Street Garage is a 1/3 mile walk away, if needed.

 Refreshments:

After most worship services at the Chapel there is food offered – and good food too! All are welcome to participate.
