1 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2 He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

4 “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think,5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

6 And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:1-8

Many of our prayers find their ultimate answer only in the New Creation. In other words, some prayers have to wait until the very End.

And waiting is hard. You pray for change in your life or in the lives of others. You pray for good to prevail. You pray for an end to suffering. You pray for healing or rescue. AND NOTHING SEEMS TO HAPPEN.

Jesus knows. Jesus understands how discouraging that is. So He puts that frustration in perspective. He gives us a handle to grasp and to hold. If even an unjust judge will do the right thing to get a woman off his back, don’t you think your loving Father will act to save you, too?

DON’T GIVE UP! Your prayers are heard. More than that, your prayers are answered! Ultimately, your prayer for the end of suffering, the end of evil, the end of sickness and death can only come at the End, the Real End, the Final Victory, when Christ shall come and the dead shall be raised and we will be changed.

And while we wait, it sometimes seems like our prayers don’t matter to God. Jesus gives you this promise: He is coming soon (in God terms) and when He does, you will have the Ultimate answer to your prayers. So DON’T GIVE UP! The Jesus who knows you and loves you will make good on His promises!
