Prayer for the Week

Lord Jesus Christ, you humbled yourself to serve me; yet I have such trouble humbling myself to serve others.

I know the log in my own eye prevents me from seeing myself and others clearly. And I know I have no power to remove that log on my own.

So again today, Jesus, I ask you to do Your work in me. Heal my spiritual blindness. Remove my self-centeredness. Join me to Your victorious death and resurrection that I might start living out Your new creation life.

For I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Jesus, I cannot move forward except by Your grace; be present in my relationships.

Amen.

 

Taking worship home

With a friend or family member talk about one or more of the following:

Think of some situations where you could not see clearly. What was going on? What was the experience like? How did it turn out?

What’s the biggest surgery you have ever had? How long did it take to recover?

It’s always easier to see faults in other people than in yourself.

What annoying things do people around you do?

Is there any habit you have that is annoying to people around you?

Which seems worse to you, YOUR annoying habits or THEIR annoying habits?

Brainstorm some of the things Jesus had to put up with in His relationship with His disciples. Which do you think were the hardest to bear?

Talk about one or more of the following with people who can point you back to Jesus and His love for you.

How do you see Jesus working ON you? How do you see Jesus working THROUGH you?

What are you putting up with in other people right now? What is Jesus putting up with in you right now?

What promise or word of grace do you need to get through this week?
