Prayer for the Week

Jesus, You bless us through the relationships You place in our lives. We offer back to you our friends, neighbors, and family members. We want to be Your hands and heart for the people around us; grow us, Lord, to be more like you.

As we try to take small steps forward in faith, we know all too well our own failure. Please do not leave us to our own strength or will, but work in us, Jesus, that You might also work through us.

Grant us Your Spirit to encourage, strengthen, and guide. And every time we fail, be there to comfort and restore.

Jesus, we cannot move forward except by Your grace; be present in our relationships.

Amen.

Sermon Notes

The “One Anothers” we have seen so far:

Love: relationships grounded in Jesus, over time, for the world

Forgive: we share the real, tangible forgiveness of Jesus

Admonish: the log gets in the way of helping with the speck

Agree With: holding to unity AND division for the sake of the Gospel

Encourage: cheering each other on, eyes fixed on Jesus

Pray For: when you get down on your knees, your perspective changes.

What’s your next step?

Write it down:

Growth is hard because ________________________ is hard.

  1. Be Devoted: steadfastly ________________________
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42)
  1. Be Devoted: _______________________ love

“Be devoted to one another in love.” (Romans 12:10)

  1. Be Devoted: _____________________ & ______________________ daily
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”  (Luke 9:23)

Taking worship home

With a friend or family member talk about one or more of the following:

How have you experienced change in your life? Is change positive or negative?

Talk about something you accomplished over time. What were the challenges? How did you get it done? What was the outcome?

Growth and change happen best in relationship. Talk about the following and commit to following up with someone on your rope.

Consider what we have talked about over the last 7 weeks. What one aspect of relationships would you like to grow in?

When you think about that area of growth, what do you feel about it? What is exciting, challenging, difficult, hopeful?

How have you typically behaved in that area in the past? What would you like to change?

What simple but concrete thing could you commit to doing next that you think will impact that area? What do you think Jesus thinks about that?

How could someone support you in being devoted to that change? Who will you ask to follow up with you and when?

What promise of Jesus will you need to hold on to in order to take this next step? How does your baptism affect your plan to step forward in faith?

Make sure you speak a word of promise from Jesus into the lives of the people who share these thoughts with you.
