Matthew 9: 36-38 “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

MOST Ministries began in 1989 when Don and Gayle Sommerfeld, right here from St. Luke’s Ann Arbor, became passionate about serving in the short term mission field. Our ministry has grown to serve over 180,000 people in 48 countries, and has sent over 500 teams out with two missions: to serve physical needs and also share the love of Christ with people around the world.

One of the most requested projects that we do is our eyeglass project. Being able to see affects a person’s ability to enjoy life, read the Bible, and make a living – sometimes the cost of a pair of glasses would be two or three month’s wages in another country. We are happy to have produced our newest video – it depicts a pair of glasses from start to end: donation and collection, sorting, cleaning, packing, traveling, and finally finding their way onto a needy child’s face. There is nothing quite like seeing a person’s face light up after years of being unable to see!

We are so grateful to St. Luke’s congregation for the many, many ways you’ve provided assistance over the years: You have volunteered in our offices, collected glasses, become team members, prayed for us, and supported us financially. Without your diligent and faithful partnership, it truly would not have been possible for MOST Ministries to have grown in so many ways over the years. Thank you for making us your quarterly mission focus!
