Deuteronomy 1:30
“The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes.”
I selected this verse because I like the image that God will always be fighting Satan for me. God also is there for me when I am tempted and He can help me resist the temptations of Satan and the world. Because I know God does this for me, it makes me feel safe knowing that God is protecting me.
I find great comfort in the image that God will always be a warrior and fight for me. The old testament YHWH of Sabaoth, or God of Angel Armies, led His angels into battle against Israel’s enemies, and I am confident He will do the same for me. God gives me comfort through difficult times; I know this because when my dad was sick and in the hospital, He was there for my family and me. An example of this is the love shown to us by lots of people, and how God provided for my family through the gifts of meals when my dad wasn’t home and we were spending lots of time with him at the hospital. I also know that God was looking out for me because He gave healing to my dad.
My image of this verse is hundreds of soldiers led by God and fighting against Satan and his army of evil angels. I know that God and His army will always win, because Jesus won victory over Satan and death through His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. Because God sent Jesus to die for my sins I know He will always fight for me.
I am able to believe all of this because God sent His Holy Spirit into my heart and because of the Holy Spirit I receive the gift of faith. Through this faith I trust in Jesus death and that He rose again. By doing this Jesus redeemed me of my sins, and I know I’m saved. He did this for me so this makes me want to follow Him and learn more about Him. As I venture through my faith walk, continuing now and for the rest of my life on earth, I know that God is with me. His grace is unending and even when I fail, God will always be there to forgive me from my sins and make me right with him again.
I am glad that God has chosen me to be His son, and I am thankful for all He has done and will do for me throughout my life.
