Due to concerns revolving around the coronavirus pandemic, The Shelter Association of Washtenaw County, in collaboration with affiliated churches, has changed the 2020-2021 rotating homeless shelter program to be one month long at each location instead of one week. This means that fewer churches will be hosting and the ones that are not will be providing volunteers to the churches that are. We do not know what future years will entail.

St. Luke has agreed to be the host site for the month of January beginning on Monday the 4th through Sunday the 31st. We will not need to transport the guys at all as the Shelter Association has purchased a van and their staff will handle that. Additionally, we are only providing meals on the 4 Saturday nights of the month. 

Official volunteer sign ups for evening & overnight hosts can be found using the link at the bottom of this page. The most immediate need is to secure groups to provide meals for the remaining two Saturday nights in January. Those dates are the 23rd, & 30th. Please contact me directly if you are interested in heading a group that would be able to provide, prepare, and serve a meal to 25 men on one of the two remaining Saturday dates in the Great Room at St. Luke. Meals are served at approximately 7:30 pm. Your group would be able to use the kitchen during the day on your Saturday if you so desire.

Other needs include:

  • Cash/check/online donations to purchase new towels, wash/dry towels, and other misc. items.
  • Regular ground coffee
  • Non-chlorine bleach

Items we do NOT need include:

  • Any type of bathroom soap or shampoo
  • Laundry soap of any type

View the sign-up sheet – we have 7 pm to midnight shifts as well as the normal overnight shift.  I will be in the St. Luke foyer on Sunday mornings to help with these sign ups and to sign up volunteers for washing towels which we will be necessary on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, & Sundays.  Everything will be provided to volunteers that are able to take the towels to a laundromat to wash, dry, and fold them on these days of the week during January.
