Homeless Shelter Week – 2022

Our 2022 week begins the evening of Monday, January 17, 2022 and ends the morning of Monday, January 24. We are only hosting for one week this year.

We have four areas of need:

  1. Meals – Groups to provide, prepare, and serve meals for 25 guys plus your volunteers on the Monday thru Friday nights. We serve dinner @ 7 p.m. in the Great Room each night. The Great Room kitchen can be used at any time throughout the day to prepare the meal as needed. Plates, cups, bowls, etc. are provided. If you are part of a group or want to put a group together and pick a night please let me know.
  2. Bathroom cleaning – We need a person, sometime during each day Tuesday through Sunday, to clean the two bathrooms that they guys use that are in the hallway to the Great Room. All supplies will be provided. A different person each day is fine.
  3. Overnight hosts – We need one, preferably two people to stay at St. Luke each night at the Welcome Center desk beginning @ 10:30 p.m. until 7 a.m.. By that time of night most guys are sleeping but we just need somebody to be there, awake and available. If there are two people one can sleep in one of the education rooms on a provided air mattress. Generally overnight hosts only serve one night during the week but if you are in a situation where this would work for you for more than one night that would be great.
  4. Laundry – The guys take showers each night/morning and we provide the towels for that. Therefore, we wash the towels each day, Tuesday through Monday, at a local laundromat, typically by 1 or 2 volunteers, returning them to St. Luke by 7 p.m.. All supplies are provided. Additionally, on Saturday, January 22 we will be doing the guy’s personal laundry for the ones that request it. This takes a bit more time and therefore we look for a few volunteers for that day.

Last year we did the whole month of January and it was very well supported by St. Luke & the community at large. We expect 2022 to be much easier as we are hosting for only a week.
