By Lizzie Zehnder, Confirmation Class of 2014

For my confirmation, I chose the verse Luke 15:32, “But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he is lost and is found.” I chose this verse because it was from my Grandfather’s favorite Bible story–the Prodigal Son.

This was his favorite story because he was a big believer in unconditional love and he always showed love to his family. When we sin and stray away from our faith, Jesus forgives us and loves us always. That is what is shown in my verse, no matter how much we screw up, our Father is always there to forgive and receive us.

I believe that Jesus will love me unconditionally. Because of this, He will always forgive my sins, and love me no matter what. I know I never have to fear punishment because Jesus gave his life for me, and took the consequence for my sins. I want to feel more deserving of this love.

I know I never have to fear punishment because Jesus gave his life for me.

My verse challenges me to confess and own up to my sins and mistakes. This verse promises me that even when I don’t deserve His love and forgiveness, I receive it.

I believe the promise of Jesus.
