Editor’s Note: Jim is now our part-time interim Executive Administrator. His job is to coordinate ministries and staff to make sure the day to day operations of the congregation function smoothly and well, in alignment with our vision and direction.

Jim Sorgatz attended Concordia Junior College, Ann Arbor and Concordia Teachers College, River Forest, IL where he earned a Bachelor of Education Degree. He holds a Masters Degree in Education from Western Michigan University.

He served in various capacities as a called worker in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod for 43 years. They included classroom teacher, youth director, VBS Director, Athletic Director, Adult and Youth Bible Class teacher, and School Administrator in three different Lutheran congregations and schools in the Northern Illinois and Michigan Districts.

His last 13 years were spent as Assistant to the President of the Mid-South District for Lutheran Schools and Congregational Services.

Duties included coordination of services to teachers, administrators, pastors, Directors of Christian Education, youth and congregational leaders.

In the Michigan District, additional service and experience include terms on the Board of Missions, Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Principals Conference. In addition, he served twelve years as a consultant to schools and congregations throughout the synod on an assignment basis, and received training in Peace Maker and Missional Community Ministries.

Since 2014, Jim and his wife, Marian, have resided in Saline and are members of St. Luke. They are parents to two daughters, have two sons-in-law, and five grandchildren.

A worship experience, which included creative and scripture-based preaching, dynamic music, and spiritually inspired worshippers, first drew Jim and Marian to St. Luke. They are thankful to be here and look forward to future involvement and service.
