Keeping Christmas

Our “Keeping Christmas” Advent series is inspired by the final paragraph of Dickens’ well-known and loved book, A Christmas Carol. At the end of the novel, Dickens describes the results of Scrooge’s transformation: “It was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us! And so, as Tiny Tim observed, “God Bless Us, Every One!”

As evidenced by our over-spending, stress, and loss of focus on the birth of our Savior, we do not know how to “keep Christmas well” as Scrooge learned to do. We need to know how the Lord would have us “keep,” or observe, the birth of our Savior. We, like Scrooge, are in need of a visitation; not by three spirits, but by the Holy Spirit, with the result that we find and celebrate what the Lord most wants us to have – and keep – this Christmas.

Worship with us live and online at 6:30 p.m. on the Wednesdays of Advent, December 1, 8, & 15. Our theme, “Child of Promise,” is based on our Advent devotional booklets which we’ll distribute live and online beginning Sunday November 21.
