One out of every seventeen verses. That’s the frequency the New Testament quotes or alludes to the Old Testament book of Isaiah, according to one scholar. That means that on average, the New Testament authors have some kind of connection to Isaiah in mind about once per chapter! Isaiah was massively important to the writers of the New Testament, shaping not only how they viewed Israel’s history, but also their understanding of what Jesus had accomplished and would do in the future. On Wednesdays during Advent this year, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the New Testament passages that draw from Isaiah 40:1-11, the passage our Sunday series is based on. We invite you to join us as we see how God’s salvation was foretold in Isaiah…and fulfilled in Christ!
We’ll have a sign-up sheet available in the lobby to let us know what you’re bringing.
