It’s time to replace our roof! Our roof is aging and we need to protect our building by replacing over 11,000 square feet of roofing this spring.

The flat section of our roof is made up of a rubber membrane with stone ballast to hold it down. That roof was supposed to last us about 15 years–and it has now lasted 30! That’s good news!

And it will cost right around $84,000 to replace. While we have some money set aside for unexpected building costs, we will need to raise much of the $84 in the next 40 days or so.

Here’s more good news: we have already received over $43,000 in gifts and pledges toward the Raise the Roof giving initiative. That means we’re over halfway to reaching our goal!

Raise the Roof Celebration and Giving Dinner

Friday, May 19, at 6:30 pm in our Great Room we will celebrate together what Jesus is doing in and through the people of St. Luke. You can expect good food and fellowship, some fun entertainment, an update on our Raise the Roof initiative, and a chance to make a special offering or fulfill your pledge. We are inviting all of the ministry groups who use our building, so don’t be surprised to find a table full of people from MOPS, Friends In Deed, Explorers Homeschool Group, or the Chinese Church that worships here on Sunday afternoons. Feel free to invite some friends; we have!

If you would like to host a table of 8, please email amoyer@stlukeaa.org.

Support for Circles, Washtenaw County

Our building is one of the primary resources we have for fulfilling our mission. As we care for that resource, we also want to use it in ways that help us seek the stories of real people around us and share in the story of Jesus’ activity in their lives.

To highlight the fact that our building is integral to our mission, 10% or a tithe of what we raise for our roof will go to support the launch of Circles Washtenaw County. The Circles program has a track record of lifting people out of poverty and keeping them there. A key part of their success is developing real relationships across socioeconomic lines.

Their goal is “to break the cycle of generational poverty by creating circles of support and connections with people who are committed to making real change in our community.” Friends In Deed will be using the St. Luke building to launch Circles Washtenaw County this June.  As we walk in that direction, we will be able to share more about why we are so excited to be a key partner for Friends In Deed and the Circles program. You can learn more about Circles Washtenaw County here.

Thank You

Thank you for all of your support! Please prayerfully consider what kind response Jesus is shaping in you. Make a special gift. Attend the Raise the Roof dinner on Friday, May 19. Learn more about Circles Washtenaw County and how you can get involved in making a real difference in real lives. And in all of these things, keep your eyes open for how Jesus is active in you and through you.

What an exciting time to be part of the St. Luke family!
