“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith – and this not from yourselves, its the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8

The main image of the verse is that Jesus died on the cross and gave us the gift of faith. Jesus is the good guy in the story because He saved us. Also, He gave us His gift because of His love for us.

Anyone holding us back from our faith is the enemy because they want to take away our gift. We don’t have to do anything in this verse, but only accept the gift Jesus gave us. At the end of the story, we will have eternal life by believing, and we will get to go to heaven.

I trust that Jesus will let me accept the gift of faith that He gave me. I trust that Jesus will help me with my faith walk. I trust that He will help me with bumps in the road and keep me alive in my faith.

Because Jesus gave me faith, I believe I will live forever. This is all possible because Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins, even though we did nothing to deserve it. Jesus gave us this gift because of His love for us.

My response to the gift is gratefulness. Because of Jesus’ love for me, I get to not only walk through faith with Jesus, I also get to live forever with Him. I don’t need to worry about death and be scared of it because Jesus will be there with me.

My confirmation verse challenges me to not think you can be better, and to not think you earned this gift and to brag about it. That is what I should not do. Jesus doesn’t want us to think we earned it because we didn’t, and because we don’t have to.

My confirmation verse promises me that I have been saved by Grace. I believe the promises of Jesus.
