February brings a number of transitions that foster renewal. Perhaps you’ve noticed the continued transition in the amount of daylight as the northern hemisphere tilts slowly back toward the sun. The sun doesn’t set as early as it did a few weeks ago! As daylight lengthens the promise of spring and the renewal of life continues to grow.
The church is about to transition seasons, too. We will leave behind the season of Epiphany and enter the season of Lent. Our transition involves moving from Epiphany’s focus on light and the revealing of the life of Jesus Christ to Lent’s focus on preparation and repentance as we follow the journey of Jesus to the cross. His journey is one of suffering and death that brings the renewal of our lives, the forgiveness of our sins, and the certain promise of full life in the new creation.
There is still another February transition we will experience at St. Luke-Ann Arbor. It may not appear as significant as the tilting of the earth. It is certainly not as substantive as the passion of Jesus. Yet this transition also presents an opportunity for renewal.
On February 22, 2015, the first Sunday of Lent, St. Luke-Ann Arbor will be transitioning from one large group adult Bible study to a six-week period of multiple adult study options. You are invited to attend one of these opportunities to renew your discipleship journey together with other disciples of Jesus.
The following Sunday morning adult studies run from 9:45-10:45am:
Gospel of Mark – Led by Dave Hasey (Room 102), this Bible study will continue our in-depth exploration of the Gospel of Mark.
L.O.V.E. – This marriage enrichment study, based on the book L.O.V.E. by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott and led by Mike and Judy Maynard (Rooms 104-105), will the explore the four personality dimensions that make up your personal “love style.” Through the six-week study you will discover your own love style and that of your spouse or fiancée in order to draw you closer together.
Prayer – Ellen Davis will lead this time of prayer in Room 30 (lower level).
