Incredible! That’s what you are!
In just under three weeks, our community gave almost $5,000 to support hospital workers. Last week, Angel Food Catering delivered 100 hot meals to both Michigan Medicine and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Another 100 meals for each hospital are in the process of being organized next.
The first two months of this pandemic (since around March 13th in Michigan) have seriously stressed many of the county’s healthcare workers. They were trained to help and heal, but so often they’ve had to watch helplessly while patients struggle.
Things are starting to improve, and the Washtenaw County numbers look much better, but some of the experiences will remain with these heroes for weeks and months to come.
We know that Jesus has been with these frontline workers as He promises to walk with people “through the valley of the shadow of death.” Sometimes, though, it’s good to get a tangible reminder of His presence.
We are thankful in this context to be able to express appreciation and gratitude for the care they have selflessly provided. We know that Jesus has been with these frontline workers as He promises to walk with people “through the valley of the shadow of death.” Sometimes, though, it’s good to get a tangible reminder of His presence.
Our prayer is that these meals from our community have done just that. Thanks to all of you who’ve given financially, and thanks to all of you who’ve prayed for these special caregivers. The staff were delighted to receive these delicious meals, and they found them very comforting. Some remarked that it reminded them of their grandmother’s home-cooked meals.
The St. Luke Care Team is excited about the success of this operation, and feels ready to pivot to another focus. This might be a local food bank or other charity.
