Gail and I have been married for 32 years. We have facilitated marriage retreats, been part of a couple’s small group for the last 15 years and have done numbers of things to help our marriage be good. We have a healthy marriage. What we have both learned is that marriage takes energy and time. A good marriage can’t be assumed.

This is why St. Luke, New Life, 2/42 and Knox Presbyterian are coming together to provide a marriage weekend March 11-12. Our four congregations have a commitment of encouraging healthy marriages and by so doing provide healthy families. I am really excited about this partnership and the good that will come from our marriage retreat.

We are planning on 600+ of us gathering at Knox on Friday evening from 7:00-9:30 and Saturday morning from 9:00-1pm. We understand that people need their weekend to get things done at home so we have intentionally designed a retreat that will be focused on building up your marriages and not use up your whole weekend.

Dave and Ann Wilson are our speakers. Dave is the co-founder of Kensington Church, Troy, MI, and the Detroit Lions chaplain. He and his wife have done marriage retreats throughout the country. Check out their video. You will see their honesty and passion for encouraging healthy marriages. You’ll find them humorous, encouraging, and very transparent about their own marriage.

They have created a new marriage retreat called Vertical Marriage. Come and hear what they mean by the title and laugh a lot. If you went two years ago, we will be doing different presentations. We all had a great time. Go out and ask other people to come with you. Let them experience encouragement in their own marriages no matter the age of the people. I highly recommend this as a good start for premarriage counseling but also for us veterans who have been doing marriage for a long time.
